ASFA was founded in 2007 to provide fitness professionals with a credible, practical way to validate what they know and continue building on it over time. The focus has always been on real-world knowledge—recognizing experience and supporting long-term growth in the industry.

ASFA has issued over 115,000 certifications across the United States and internationally, becoming a widely recognized option for individuals looking to establish, strengthen or expand their credentials. ASFA certifications are exam-based and built to assess applied knowledge using established exercise science principles, objective assessment criteria, and recognized industry standards. Each certification follows a structured framework to ensure consistency, reliability, and real-world application—from those entering the field to experienced professionals advancing their careers.

ASFA allows professionals to test first and prepare as needed. Recommended texts and materials are available, but not required, giving you the flexibility to focus only on what you actually need without unnecessary upfront costs.
