Group Fitness for Accountability

Accountability is the one of the most important factors in success with reaching personal fitness goals.  Finding a method that works best for you in holding yourself accountable for your workouts can sometimes be a challenging task.  Group fitness is one of the easiest ways to help with accountability in reaching personal fitness goals. The social aspect of group fitness classes make workouts fun and many individuals look forward to the socializing part of group fitness classes and working together on common goals.  The benefits of personal training can only take you so far. You must have accountability to see it through! Here are some group fitness classes that can help with accountability:

  1. Bootcamp or HIIT classes. Bootcamp style classes or HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) classes are high intensity and big on accountability. Some of the instructors are known for calling out clients that miss a class, which significantly helps reduce the occurrence of not showing up. Boot camp styled classes and high intensity interval training classes are different with each class so it helps prevent boredom and burnout as well. If you didn’t care for one class, don’t worry because the next class will be completely different! These types of classes blend aerobic and anaerobic training into timed intervals that help blast calories and tone the entire body.
  2. Aquatic Fitness. These classes are fun and social year long, so attendees don’t like to miss out on this popular low impact activity. Aquatic personal training can take place in waist deep water or deeper water that goes to your chest or shoulders.  The deeper the water, the greater the resistance, and the greater the challenge is during your workout. The water creates natural resistance, so you get a solid anaerobic workout in addition to an aerobic workout. Aquatic fitness is appropriate for all ages and fitness levels.  Because aquatic fitness is low impact, it also makes a popular choice for those who are prone to injury or are recovering from a sports injury.
  3. Social Runs. Runners who struggle getting out the door find training runs much more enjoyable in groups. With larger social runs, there is always someone to run with.  Large groups will break off into smaller subgroup depending on distance, speed, and pace.  Don’t worry about not being able to keep up with any of the faster runners!  Social runs are noncompetitive and provide an opportunity to try new routes, new trails, and meet new friends while getting your training miles in.
  4. Martial Arts Fitness Classes. Martial arts fitness classes can include kickboxing exercise routines blended with self-defense. These high energy classes help improve self-esteem, teach self-defense, and provide a full body workout. Martial arts fitness classes often break into smaller groups or partners to try out your new self-defense techniques.  If you don’t show up, your partner won’t get to practice their training.  Accountability is important in group fitness classes such as martial arts fitness, where your training partner is reliant on you to get your workout in. Kickboxing workout plans train the mind, body, and support accountability in your fitness training.
  5. Indoor climbing. Indoor climbing is another fitness activity that is big with accountability.  Your climbing partner will need you to spot them and to help with their safety ropes.  You both will be reliant on each other for safety and for your fitness.  Indoor climbing is fun for those who don’t enjoy traditional gym workouts.  Climbing helps work all the major muscle groups and improves stability, flexibility, core strength, and functional fitness. Many weight loss workout plans utilize fitness activities that promote accountability to help individuals stay motivated in reaching their personal fitness goals.
