4 Accountability Tips for Virtual Training

Virtual training can sometimes be challenging, especially for the individuals who love to combine their social time with workout time. Getting to catch up with friends and get in a workout benefits both physical and emotional health. With current events putting a huge push for virtual training for social distancing purposes, fitness time with friends decreases and individuals are held accountable for getting in their fitness workouts on their own. Here are some accountability tips you can use with virtual training:

1. Schedule your training like you would an important meeting. If you plan to workout whenever you get around to it, the chances are high that you’ll be wondering what happened to that missed workout as you are getting ready for bed that night. Scheduling your workout like an important meeting ensures that you have blocked out a specific time in your personal schedule to complete that task and all other events such as work or doctor visits will be scheduled around that time block. Certified Health and Wellness Coaching uses this trick to help their clients manage time and fitness for balanced health.

2. Connect with online fitness groups. Connecting virtually with other fitness groups is a great way to continue being part of the active fitness community and trainers. Many sites will have online daily check-ins to help with accountability and daily motivational quotes to help you stay engaged and focused on your personal fitness goals. Online fitness groups are also great resources to obtain training plans for multi-sport athletes and other fitness enthusiasts who want the extra push and challenge for their virtual training.

3. Let your friends and family know about your personal fitness goals so they can provide words of encouragement and opportunities for fitness training. If your best friend knows you are struggling to get your workouts in, they might be willing to help entertain your kids for a short playdate so you can get your workout in a couple of days each week. A neighbor might be encouraging with invitations for evening walks around the neighborhood if they know you are struggling to get in your steps for the day. You might even inspire some of your friends and family to join you and make the commitment to fitness!

4. Keep a training log. A personal fitness training log can be done on paper or with an online spreadsheet. Training logs are a visual reminder of what needs to be done and a display of all the hard work that you have put forth so far. You didn’t train this hard to give up at the end! Seeing the progress and writing it down can help keep you on track and accountable for your workouts. It doesn’t have to be a difficult workout to count. Even stability workouts with a core stability ball or core balance ball can help improve functional fitness and strength. No workout is too small.
