Sports Nutrition and the Holidays: Stay Fit!

The holidays are a time of year when friends and family come together. Usually, family get-togethers involve eating favorite foods and splurging with decadent deserts. This year, as a fitness professional, maybe you should share some common sense tips with your family and friends.

Several easy to follow healthy eating tips can include:

1.  Try to eat vegetables and lean meats prior to any fried foods or desserts.

2.  Try drinking a large glass of water at least 10 minutes prior to large meals.

3.  If you are going to eat more than one plate, be sure that your first plate is lean and low-calorie food choices.

Controlling portion size and in-taking a proper amount of water can make a substantial difference if the quantity and quality of food you and your family intakes during the holiday season. Trying to limit your cheats to one day and not having treats readily available are just a few of the small tips that can really slow down holiday binging.  Still, no matter how much you try to address the holiday calorie intake, most of your clients will gain weight over the holidays.  And, if they do, it will be your job as a fitness professional to help them lose the unwanted weight and tone up to satisfactory condition.

Most fitness professionals will tell you that working out alone is only half the battle when it comes to staying lean.  Continuing your education with a specialization certification in Sports Nutrition is an ideal way to help assist your clients with losing their holiday pounds, while at the same time furthering your professional education.  ASFA® offers a specialization certification in Sports Nutrition for fitness professionals looking to continue their education by learning more about diets, nutrients, vitamins, minerals, supplements, etc.

If your clients will be gaining unwanted weight over the holidays and you are ready to take the next step in your fitness education, maybe a certification in Sports Nutrition is right for you.

With ASFA® certifications you can study at your own pace and take your exam online whenever you feel comfortable.  Also, we recommend texts and DVDs from our affiliate Human Kinetics for reference materials.

Furthering your education with Sports Nutrition for the holidays, it's the right qualification at the right time!
