Which is right for you - Speed or Endurance running? The answer is individual, but there are pros and cons to both. Some people are just built for one or the other. What we mean by that is that some people just have more fast twitch or slow twitch fibers. Whichever you have, there are some pros and cons to speed vs endurance training. Speed training is usually more high impact - but, usually doesn't take as much time away from your day. Endurance training is usually lower impact - but, necessarily takes more time away from your day. Speed training is more prone to acute injuries. Endurance training is more prone to chronic injuries. Speed training builds more muscle mass. Endurance training builds longer leaner muscles.
So, the answer isn't as obvious as it seems. And, for most, both types of running training are doable. But, genetically you are going to be more predisposed to one than the other (everyone is!). What are your goals? If you are looking to lose weight, improve cardio and tone - then, endurance is your answer. If you are looking to build dynamic strength and improve sport performance - then, speed is your answer. So, consider your goals and determine which type of running is right for you.
