A vacation can provide a much needed break from the daily routine of work and life. Just because you are on vacation does not mean you need to take a vacation from your workouts. Sometimes just having a change of scenery is all you need to put a little spark into your workouts.
One easy way to make sure you get your workout in is to make sure that opportunity is provided. Stay in a hotel that has a fitness facility so that you will have access to equipment and a safe area to work out. You will be more likely to stay with an exercise program if you have the means to do so. No excuses! You can use this time to experiment with new equipment you might not have at home or in your regular health club location. Many health clubs will offer a free trial pass that you can use for a week. If your hotel does not have an exercise facility, consider obtaining a trial pass to any of the local health clubs so you can take advantage of the amenities and get your workout in. Take the time to make your workout and enjoyable.
Another way to make sure you don’t skip your workout is to take advantage of your new scenery and go for a walk or hike! Go explore a new trail and enjoy all the vegetation you don’t have back home. If you are a runner, use social media to find out where the local running groups are meeting and join them for a run. Many runners will use vacation as an opportunity to run a race in a new state finding out if there are any local events or races going on that weekend.
Social media and fitness apps are other ways to take your workouts with you. You can join a fitness challenge through social media pages and use the fitness apps to track them. Online coaches and trainers are a great way to keep you accountable for those workouts that are a bigger challenge to fit in.
Turn your workout time into family bonding time. Go on a group hike together. Go explore a new city by foot. Go check out a zoo or botanical garden. Track those steps! Use a pedometer to track your steps. A fifteen minute mile is the same distance as a nine minute mile! You will be surprised to see how far you have walked when tracking your steps while on vacation.
As you can see, getting in a workout while on vacation is not difficult. Sometimes you have to be a little creative with how to get it in, but there are always options that you can take advantage of.
